I could post very many of these, as they are built by a #generative #Processing sketch. The system is up and running on my Twitter with super results.
It pulls one of 100+ backgrounds and a growing number of objects – glitches, renders, sketches – into an automated but controlled composition. Position, color and orientation are determined by code. The captions below come algorithmically from Kafka’s “The Castle”, whose main themes is a foggy relationship with a power superstructure, which informs well these abstract ruminations. A relationship between object, emotion and path are created through guided chaos.
Will share more selections in the future – different potential spaces echo through the piece, so quite a bit of variety.
Up and running on Twitter is my Mignola #comic cover #bot. Here is a collection of a few recent results.
While not strictly adhering to that style, it does pull a number of compositional and color inspirations, generated randomly with orientation, layering and language via a Processing sketch. The titles are appropriately Gothic, and a small description of the tale contents is at the bottom with a mysterious callout.
I am going through the work of adding more characters, backgrounds and foreground objects, which has been a pleasure. Into the pot have gone many CC0 images – from ancient Japanese manuscripts to midieval book illustrations. Combining drawings from over 500 years ago with software that manufactures art is a real kick. Will post more results in the future.
Thrilled to how these are turning out. Would totally read each and every one of these books, especially “The Dental Copyist”.
Need to finish the bottom alignment, and of course load in hundreds more ancient #illustration objects. But this is shaping up!
I’d say we’re getting there. Pretty good backgrounds and a nifty title generator. I guess question is our how complex to make the backgrounds. Angle switching sure would be nice, and the color rotation will happen, but do we need different approaches altogether or maybe the figure and detail switch is enough. TBD.
